Environmental Performance Reviews. Peru 2016: Highlights and recommendations

The aim of this environmental performance review is precisely to help Peru assess its progress towards achieving its environmental goals, enrich and ensure that the necessary policy dialogue continues uninterrupted, promote better accountability and deepen the awareness of all actors involved in the economic and social development of Peru. Science and technology for sustainable development: a Latin American perspective

This publication, compiled by Gilberto C. Gallopín, Regional Adviser in Environmental Policy for Latin America and the Caribbean, contains the results of the deliberations of the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Workshop on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development. The purpose of the Workshop was to discuss the practical, theoretical and organizational challenges that the quest for sustainable development poses to science and technology (S&T). The increase in complexity and connectivity characteristic of our times results in that the components of the problems are now much less separable than before, and emphasizes the need to approach the problems of development and the environment not only as complex issues in themselves, but also as inseparable and mutually determined. This represents an exceptional challenge to science and technology, particularly to the analytical approaches compartmentalized into disciplines, which represents the bulk of activities and priorities of current S&T systems in both north and south. The Workshop attempted to articulate a Latin American and Caribbean vision towards the search of more effective ways of generating and applying Science and Technology to the problems and opportunities of the region.

The economics of climate change in the Caribbean

The present volume captures the results of the studies conducted during Phase 2 of the RECCC project to date. Chapter 1 provides the contextual framework within which the assessments were conducted and Chapter 2 focuses on the emissions scenarios as set out by the Special Report on Emissions Scenarios by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The results of the economic assessments of the impacts of climate change on the agricultural, coastal and marine, energy and transportation, health, freshwater resources and tourism sectors in the Caribbean subregion are presented in Chapters 3 to 9, respectively. The report concludes with an examination of adaptation strategies and key policy recommendations for policymakers, in Chapter 10.

El objetivo de esta evaluación del desempeño ambiental del Perú es precisamente ayudar al país a evaluar los avances logrados en la consecución de sus objetivos ambientales, enriquecer y asegurar la constancia del diálogo de políticas y promover una mayor rendición de cuentas y una concientización más profunda entre los actores que contribuyen al desarrollo económico y social. Las 66 recomendaciones que se incluyen en este estudio están enfocadas en algunos de los principales desafíos del país en materia ambiental.

Evaluaciones del desempeño ambiental: Chile 2016

En esta evaluación, preparada por la OCDE en cooperación con la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (CEPAL). se examinan los avances logrados por Chile en la consecución de los objetivos de su política ambiental, en particular a partir de 2005, cuando se dio a conocer la primera evaluación del desempeño ambiental. En el documento se realizan 54 recomendaciones con el objeto de ayudar al país a lograr una economía más verde, y a mejorar la gestión y la gobernanza ambientales, con especial hincapié en las políticas relativas al cambio climático y la diversidad biológica.
